During the presentations I learned that Zhongli Quan was patron deity of weaponry and explosions, I fact that prior I had not known. Hel taught me that Hel appeared as a half woman, half corpse, giantess. I learned from Athena that her symbol is the owl. I learned from Hermes that he was the patron god of doctors because doctors used to travel from town to town. I learned from Raven that Raven could shape shift. I learned from Maat that the heart is weighed with a feather. I learned from Little Dear that apparently deer earned their antlers from a race with rabbits. I learned from Freya that Freya was the goddess of love in Norse mythology and from Odysseus I learned that in the Odyssey there was an island of cannibals. I learned from Chang'e that there's a rabbit on the moon. From Xi Wangmu I learned that the gods gain immortality through magic peach drinks.

After dealing with the incompetent crab soldiers, we the eight immortals took on Ao Guang head on. It was a long fight, I mean that guy was tough. In the end we ended up beating the snot out of him, leaving him and his castle in ruins having reacquired my amazing instrument. After that whole event we then went forth into the depths of the ocean to further explore the Eastern Sea.

In the climax of our crossing of the sea, I accidentally dropped my magical instrument into the sea, yada yada yada, War with the Dragon King Ao Guang. He wanted the instrument for himself as he saw it floating down towards his castle and so a war between we, the Eight Immortals, and he, the Eastern Dragon King Ao Guang, began. We won the battle easily because of Ao Guang's incompetent crustacean foot soldiers and regained my super amazing magical instrument.

The conflict of my story comes when whilst on our journey across the sea by use of many various items, I misplaced my super amazing instrument and it sank to the bottom of the ocean. Seeing the beautiful music making machine as it floated towards his sea bound palace, the eastern sea king Ao Guang decided that he wanted a piece of that action, and who wouldn't, right? I however wanted not to loose my instrument, and so a battle between Ao Guang and his crustacean army against we, the Immortal Eight took place, ending in the greedy dragon/god/sea king's defeat.

From the myth of me and my seven friends crossing the sea comes the the setting of the sea itself. In Chinese mythology the sea is described as a turbulent and expansive mass of water. In the eastern area of the sea rules Ao Guang, one of the four dragon kings, and he commands an army of shellfish from his seafloor palace. The sea smells salty and feels wet and humid. Its taste is salty and filled of minerals, so if you're into that sort of thing, drink up.

From Jackie Chan Adventures |
Being one of the Eight Immortals, we appear frequently as statues or paintings in China, as well as other locations. This particular statue in Penglai City, Shangdong is one of the most well known and is frequently visited. I, alongside my seven brethren, have appeared in a Taiwanese film by the name of " Sin Diy Hoi Siu Yiu Moh", and this film features our stories. We are featured in numerous paintings as well, sometimes as murals, and other times as stand alone portraits. The cartoon show, Jackie Chan Adventures, features we, the eight immortals, and my appearance in it is notable for being specifically male, rather than ambiguous in gender.

As a patron deity to the poor, I give them assistance. I am associated with the swan, for that is my method of travel. I travel from town to town singing songs and so many people associate me with the culture of travelers. I suppose that I'm a bit eccentric as well, with the one shoe thing and all. I enjoy drinking for before my immortality I was a drunkard, and pretty much still am. I have good friends in the Eight Immortals and all who oppose them be my enemy. The symbol of which I use is a most beautiful basket of flowers. Hey, flowers are manly, okay!

Hello, my name is Lan Caihe, although there are a few other names I go by like Lan-Cai-He, Lan Zaihe, and Lan-T S'ai-Ho. I am the God of Poverty and also one of the Eight Immortals. Most describe me as dressing strangely, but who doesn't wear just one shoe, or happen to have a wooden belt? People always wonder what gender I am, but I struggle to see why. It's not like my clothes are ambiguous when it comes to gender or anything... As to the answer of that question, I'll leave it a mystery! I consider the other Eight Immortals my family members, they being He Xiangu, Cao Guojiu, Li, Tieguai, Lu Dongbin, Han Xiangzi, Zhang Guolao, and lastly our leader Zhongli Quan. In the Summers I wear coats of cotton, and in the Winter I wear pretty much nothing. Is that strange? You're right, it's normal. My powers include being immortal, being able to make songs up on the spot, and I own a giant swan that lets me fly around and stuff. I suppose my only weakness would be my supposed eccentricity; either that or my tendency to be drunk.
